WILD CREATURE is an independent fictional magazine about animals, drag, fashion, culture and the strange little systems we build around taste.

Here, animals are treated with the seriousness usually reserved for people with publicists. They wear wigs, couture, jewellery and very good make-up. They sit for portraits, attend openings, walk runways, launch questionable products, fall out with friends and occasionally make decisions their representatives would rather not discuss.

The magazine moves between fashion editorials, interviews, profiles, cultural criticism, beauty, photography, society pages, fictional advertising and gossip from a world populated entirely by animals.

The animal always matters. So does the drag. A secretary bird in severe tailoring carries herself differently from a poodle in a sculpted platinum wig or a pufferfish beneath several improbable metres of sapphire feathers. Styling is part of character here: a way of talking about taste, status, vanity, intimacy and the performance of being seen.

We are interested in the machinery around beauty as much as beauty itself. The fitting before the runway. The argument after dinner. The half-empty dressing room. The very expensive object nobody actually needed. The photograph taken five minutes before somebody becomes briefly important.

Some stories will be glamorous. Some ridiculous. Some unexpectedly tender. We intend to approach all three with equal seriousness.

Everything published in WILD CREATURE belongs to a fictional universe. Its animal subjects, designers, brands, venues, products, events, quotations, romances and scandals are invented unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Any resemblance to actual animals with publicists is entirely unfortunate.

Welcome to WILD CREATURE.
